Iris ‘Shirley Pope’

It is  always a joyful moment in the garden when the Iris sibirica start to flower in late May.  A real sign that summer has arrived.  ‘Shirley Pope’ has wonderful deep purple flowers with a prominent white blotch to the bottom of each petal.  The flowers open out almost flat.

We grow our Iris sibirica in an area of the garden which has much heavier soil which can sit very wet in winter, yet dry out in Summer and they seem very happy.  You can of course use them as marginal plants for ponds.
