Herbaceous Sickle
The Niwaki Herbaceous sickle is used in Japan for harvesting rice (not much use for that here in Shropshire) but it turns out they are equally effective over here for cutting back borders and will slice through grasses and herbaceous perennials with consummate ease. Just use one hand to grab a handful of stems above and cut through with a single strong sawing action.
